National Peace Essay Contest

The National Peace Essay Contest is a yearly competition that provides scholarships to high school students. NPEC encourages high school students to explore "issues of peace and conflict," and the role of diplomacy to build partnerships for national security. Many NPEC winners have gone on to study foreign policy issues in college or have pursued careers in international affairs. "The winner of the contest receives a $2,500 cash prize, an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to meet U.S. Department of State and USIP leadership, and a full-tuition paid voyage with Semester at Sea upon the student’s enrollment at an accredited university. The runner-up receives a $1,250 cash prize and a full scholarship to participate in the International Diplomacy Program of the National Student Leadership Conference."
ExploraVision
http://www.exploravision.org
ExploraVision is a science competition, for K-12 US and Canadian students, that goes beyond the typical student science competition and into what it takes to bring ideas to reality. A teacher sponsors and leads his/her students as they work in groups of 2 – 4 to simulate real research and development. A teacher guides students as they pick a current technology, research it, envision what it might look like in 20 years, and describe the development steps, pros & cons, and obstacles. Past winners have envisioned technologies ranging from a hand-held food allergen detector to a new device to help people who have lost limbs regain movement in real time.

One talented young artist (grades K-12) will see his or her artwork on the Google homepage and receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 Google for Education technology grant for his or her school. One winner from each state will have their work displayed in an online gallery on the contest website.
